Since becoming a wrestler, John Cena managed to win over the hearts of millions. The nation’s favorite, he also provided a lot for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and ended up beating his own Guinness World Record due to the purity of his heart.
John Cena’s 650 Good Deeds
In 1999, John Cena became a wrestler, and in no time, he received the title of the crowd’s favorite. Since then he expanded his path to acting, as well as being a real-life genie for kids. In 2022, the 16-time world champion in WWE fulfilled a total of 650 wishes with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, beating his own world record! In the past, he has also been the face of WWE’s “Be a Star,” an anti-bullying campaign. But it didn’t seem enough for the fighter. Cena knew that he’d love to support children who have been diagnosed with a critical illness as much as possible – thus becoming one of the most requested celebrities in the foundation. Apart from meeting a star, children between the age of 2 and 18 can attend any event of choice or share a gift with someone else. Yet, many applicants of the massively popular organization choose Cena.
With 650 wishes granted, who’s the other one on the Guinness World Record list? To be completely frank, there’s no one like Cena. In 2015, he set the previous record himself with a total of 500 granted wishes. No other celebrity has even interacted with their fans that many times: in the last seven years, and with a busy schedule, the wrestler managed to see 21 people a year, on average!
How does he squeeze those visits in?
Beating His Own Record
The truth is, children from Make-A-Wish Foundation are his first and foremost priority. “I just drop everything,” Cena said of his visits when the last record was set. “If I can offer a fantastic experience, I’ll be first in line to do my part.” In addition to taking pictures and having a lovely chat, participants of the Make-A-Wish program get to high-five the athlete, bear his championship belts, which he exchanges with every visit, and receive tickets for the wrestling show. There are truly more than enough belts to bring in: Cena has been a WWE champion 13 times, the World Heavyweight Champion three times, and the United States champion five times.
According to the foundation itself, Cena is the most-requested celebrity nowadays. Although he’s a huge persona in the wrestling scene, he’s also known for acting. Recently, he joined a cast of Suicide Squad and the series Peacemaker, making a name for himself as a villain-hero character. That said, the athlete-turned-actor is used to being a peacemaker of sorts, who prefers to make kids his friends every time they meet. “I want them to have an experience that will stay with them to forever,” he said back in 2015 about the families who request his visit.
“I don’t ever want the children or their families to be treated in a way where they feel as if they’re up against anything at all.”
