Consumers can find luxury anywhere in the world, be it cars, homes, or even food. Of course, there are costly desserts out there as well. Want to find out what the most expensive dessert is? It’s Strawberries Arnaud.
Strawberries Arnaud Costs $9.85 Million

Among all foods, desserts have a long history in humanity. Per New York Times, sweet creations started appearing back in 3000 BC. Then, there was no manufactured sugar, yet ancient civilizations rolled nuts and fruits into candied honey to make sweets. After mixing different flavors, people started making sugar in the Middle Ages – and that’s where the sweet tooth party started. Of course, not every civilian could afford sugar right away. At first, it was very expensive. Only the wealthy could order desserts. Although you can buy sugar in the grocery shop nowadays, the most expensive dessert in the world still exists. Most of its monetary worth is not based on the edible ingredients, though. Simply take a look at the Strawberries Arnaud!
This could be a only plate of strawberries to some. To others, it’s an amazing dessert from Arnaud’s Restaurant in New Orleans that costs $9.85 million! Strawberries Arnaud comes with a catch – the usual version of the strawberry plate is $9. When it came to Valentine’s Day, the restaurant decided to celebrate the love filling the air. In 2016, a special dish came up on the menu. The usual Strawberries Arnaud turned into the most expensive dessert in the world. Since 2016, someone has yet to beat the record!
What’s the special ingredient in the dish and why is it so damn expensive?
The Secret Of Most Expensive Dessert

At first look, it seems like Strawberries Arnaud from Arnaud’s restaurant in New Orleans French Quarter is a simple plate of fruit with a spoon. Yet, the special edition desserts have a twist to them! Back in 2016, the luxurious version was decorated with the 10.06-carat royal blue diamond engagement ring from MS Rau Antiques! Apart from the diamond, it’s also served with 24-carat gold flake, whipped cream, champagne, and ice cream. Moreover, it’s not the first time Arnaud’s done something so crazy. In 2008, the restaurant came out with a less expensive version of the VIP dessert. The bowl of berries cost $1.4 million and was accompanied by a one-of-a-kind 4.7-carat pink diamond ring. Previously, it belonged to English financier Sir Ernest Cassel.
In addition, it came with waiters pouring port from a $24,850 Charles X crystal cave liqueur set, while the musicians played jazz in the backdrop. Made out of plain materials like flour, eggs, cream, and berries, Strawberries Arnaud is still hovering on top of the most expensive desserts worldwide. Why would anyone pay a whopping $9.85 million for a dessert?
The answer is simple – it makes things much more exciting. And while there are no outlandishly expensive ingredients chefs can add to their sweet sides, they can easily turn into real luxuries like gold and diamonds. Take that diamond shortcake, for example. Created for the Takashimaya Department Store in Tokyo, it’s not even made for consumption. It cost a whopping $1.72 million for display purposes!
“Diners are bored,” says Mitchell Davis, spokesman for the James Beard Foundation. “They’re looking for new and absurd ways to tantalize themselves.”
