One of the greatest amusement parks in Tokyo has closed — but in return, the city is getting a new Warner Bros. Studio Tour! This one is all about the making of the Harry Potter franchise. Fans don’t have to wait long, either, as it’ll come to life in the first half of 2023.
Harry Potter Studio Tour Comes to Tokyo
Everyone was sad when Toshimaen, an amusement park that existed for 94 years in Tokyo, officially closed its doors. Yet, a new one will be born on the same spot: Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo — The Making of Harry Potter. The Harry Potter theme park has been under construction since the announcement and should come to life next year.
The attraction itself will first be unveiled to the public at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in London. There, visitors will be able to see the production set from the film franchise; take a closer look at wands, brooms, and potions; and explore Diagon Alley, where Harry and other wizards shopped. In the Tokyo variant, fans can also visit the re-created indoor soundstage and outdoor film set. On average, people will spend around half a day exploring the 30,000-square-meter park and all it has to offer.
Now, you’re probably thinking of the crowds lining up for the upcoming Harry Potter theme park, the annoying pushing, and the painful foot stomps that will occur during the first week. Luckily, the Studio Tour organizers thought this through. Each day, a particular number of visitors will be allowed inside the park. Moreover, each attendee will have to book their visit at a certain hour. This will help the park avoid crowds and provide each visitor with a more relaxing experience.
Harry Potter Theme Park To Include Spin-Offs
Not such a big fan of the original Harry Potter franchise? Those who prefer the Fantastic Beasts franchise will also love this attraction. Although there’s nothing that compares to the London location, the Tokyo theme park will include attractions dedicated to the spin-off series. Even the entrance itself will have a nod to Fantastic Beasts — the “beasts” themselves, or rather their models, will stand in the landscaping, looking as if they jumped straight out of the magical books written by Newt Scamander! But that’s not all the changes coming to the old Toshimaen location…
Apart from the Harry Potter theme park itself, another spot will be completely renewed and remodeled: the two Tokyo train stations! What do train stations have to do with the Harry Potter franchise, you might ask? One of them, originally called the Toshimaen Station, is mostly dedicated to theme park visitors. Naturally, it will be transformed into the Hogsmeade train station from the Harry Potter universe. The second station to change is Ikebukuro Station. But this one won’t be renovated completely. Instead, just two platforms used for trains to Toshimaen will be inspired by Kings Cross train station in London, allowing fans to become absorbed by the atmosphere right away. Begun at the start of summer 2022, the station renovations should be completed in spring 2023, just in time for the Harry Potter theme park’s grand opening!
