Actor Elliot Page, previously known as actress Ellen Page, came out as trans. The 33-year-old Juno star posted a letter to all his social media, revealing his thoughts, revelations, and preferred pronouns.
Elliot Page Comes Out As Trans
On the morning of December 1, 2020, actor Elliot Page, shared a letter announcing he is transgender. “Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” he wrote. “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.” Page then stated how thankful he feels for the support and love he has received behind-the-scenes from those close to him. “I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community.”
As you might imagine, Page also took the opportunity to ask for more equality and inclusiveness for the trans community around the world. It was at the point that the letter took on a very heavy tone. “My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is, despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared,” the actor wrote. “I’m scared of invasiveness, the hate, the “jokes” and of violence…In 2020 alone it has been reported that at least 40 transgender people have been murdered, the majority of which were Black and Latinx trans women.”
Possible Discrimination
Thankfully, Page decided to close her letter on an uplifting note. “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive. To all trans people who deal with harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence every day: I see you, I love you and I will do everything I can to change this world for the better,” the actor finished.
Meanwhile, Page’s wife, Emma Portner, seen above, supported her husband’s announcement on her social media accounts. “I am so proud of @elliotpage,” she wrote. “Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.”
In case you didn’t know, currently, Page stars on the incredibly popular Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, which will soon premiere its third season. Thankfully, the actor later told fans that Netflix has remained incredibly helpful through the entire process of his transition. In fact, they even went back and changed all his credits to “Elliot Page” on every episode of The Umbrella Academy! As for Page’s fans, they don’t mind. They just can’t wait to see what the actor does next! We’re sure it will be entertaining, as always.
