It seemed like something out of an action movie! While out on a routine locksmith call, this handyman saw a woman with “911” written on her hand. He instantly knew what he had to do…
Not His Usual Appointment
Greg, a locksmith in Midway, Utah, who would only like to be identified by his first name, has seen his fair share of strange situations before. “Being a locksmith, I have been involved in some, some domestic situations, but nothing quite like this,” he said recently. After arriving at the home of a woman and man last week, Greg noticed that the man “acted suspiciously, staying close to the female and only allowing her to have her phone with his permission.” While the man’s behavior certainly seemed odd, Greg continued his work. From these things only became worse and worse…
Throughout his work, the woman showed apparent signs of distress, looking Greg directly in the eyes many times. Then, when it came time to pay the bill, the biggest shock of the day came. The woman showed Greg her open palm, and she had the numbers 9-1-1 written out on her hand!
“So obviously, that drew some attention from me. But I was wearing a mask, so I couldn’t mouth anything to her or anything,” Greg recalled. “She’s showing me the ‘911’ again, kind of making sure that I saw it. And I made eye contact with her, to basically let her know that yeah, I saw it.” The locksmith knew exactly what he needed to do…
Safe And Sound
Immediately when he got outside, Greg started calling people. First, the locksmith called his friend, who works for the FBI. Next, on the recommendation of his buddy, Greg called 911. Within minutes, Wasatch County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the location. There, they arrested Grant Eggertsen, the man responsible for the assault. As it turns out, the victim had called the locksmith to block Eggersten from entering her property. But he arrived shortly before Greg did…
Eggersten once dated the victim, but could not let go after they broke up. According to the victim, he started with violent phone calls, which then grew into violent action. Apparently, Eggersten simply could not stand the thought of the victim dating someone else. Once he forced his way into the house on that fateful day, the situation became incredibly dangerous. Thankfully, Greg the locksmith acted quickly, saving the day!
Now, the Wasatch County Attorney’s Office has charged the man with aggravated kidnapping, committing unlawful detention, criminal trespass, and assault. He currently remains in jail against a $5,000 bond, despite Wasatch County Justice Court recommending otherwise. Meanwhile, the victim remains safe and sound after receiving some new locks.
“The lady was pretty smart to be able to do what she did, Greg, the locksmith, commented. “And so, it’s not like I was trying to guess what was really going on. She gave me some great clues that there was an issue there.”
