Two women, separated by hundreds of miles, never knew that they were sisters. Now, 20 years after fate separated them, they have reunited, all thanks to a home DNA test! You won’t believe how similar they ended up…
Long-Lost Sisters Reunite
Victoria Voorhees’ adoptive parents, Richard and Kathleen Schwartz, never hid the fact that they adopted her. However, they never revealed any details about her biological family after adopting her in 1994. All the Schwartzs’ told her was that it was a closed adoption. “I thought closed means they don’t want you, and you can’t find them, so I didn’t think about it too much,” Voorhees, 27-years-old, said. “I thought my other family didn’t want me. But I did always dreamed about having an older sibling.”
Well, as Voorhees recently found out, sometimes dreams do come true! After ordering a home DNA test from 23andME in 2020, Voorhees, a residential nurse, discovered she has a sister! Not only that, but her sister had been searching for Voorhees for years! “I was in disbelief – I opened the email then I saw the picture,” she explained. “At first I was like there’s no way, I didn’t think it was possible and maybe they found someone that has some similarities to me, but I know now that’s not how it works…I felt like I was in a movie or something – it was just so dramatic!”
Almost immediately, Voorhees used the 23&Me app to send a message to 28-year-old Alyss Ravae, her newly discovered sister. From there, things only became stranger and more incredible!
Crazy Similarities
As Voorhees waited for a reply from Ravae, she talked to her adoptive family about the news. Soon, the family realized that the adoption was supposed to be an open one. Although Voorhees was initially meant to keep in contact with her birth mother, the information was lost. Just a little while after that, Voorhees and Ravae connected, the two sisters finally meeting after more than 20 years apart. “My mum told me when I was 9 that I had a biological sister that came from both my same parents, and so I’ve always tried to look for her. I’ve tried for so long to find her through social media,” Ravae explained, but never found Voorhees. However, thanks to 23&Me, Voorhees, Ravae, and their birth mother enjoyed a video call less than a week later.
Now that they have finally reunited, the two sisters have discovered how similar they are. “It’s so weird, all these strange coincidences happened – we live very parallel lives even though we were given very different situations,” Voorhees exclaimed. Of course, they look alike, but it goes much further than that. They both have an affinity for the spooky side of life: Halloween, creepy stories, and both love Stephen King. They even have very similar bat tattoos on their ankles! Not only that, but they each have a cat and even got them around the same.
“We both like hiking trails as well, I’m going to show her all the cool ones around here!” Voorhees added, hoping to meet her sister in person as soon as possible. We wish them a happy life together!
