Usually, when people say that dreams come true, they’re just trying to make someone feel better. However, for one young boy, his dreams really did come true! Not only did a family finally decide to adopt little five-year-old Michael, but his entire kindergarten class also showed up to support him!
Emotional Support
As any parent can tell you, children have the purest hearts. And this story just shows how loving and genuine their intentions always are. Believe it or not, earlier this year, n entire kindergarten class showed up to their classmate’s adoption court hearing. The child in question, sweet five-year-old Michael, lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After what must have felt like an eternal wait, Michael’s foster parents decided to adopt the young boy fully. And, when his adoption day came around, his entire kindergarten class, including his teacher, Mrs. McKee, showed up and support the young boy.
Michael first moved in with his foster family around Thanksgiving of last year. Unfortunately, due to the incredibly complicated adoption process, it took some time for for his parents to adopt him officially. So, when the incredible day finally rolled around, his friends wanted to make sure that he had the most joyous transition into his new-old life.
A Wonderful Idea
It was, in fact, Mrs. McKee, Michael’s teacher, who came up with the idea one day when his foster mother, now adoptive mom, dropped Michael off at school. McKee brought it up with Michael’s parents, and they both loved adored the idea. The young boy’s mother simply knew it would mean the entire world to Michael.
And so, for the court hearing, the entire class showed up, signs and balloons in tow. In order to make the event happen, McKee actually needed to organize it as a field trip, meaning she needed to even get signatures from all Michael’s classmates’ parents. At the adoption hearing, the class sat behind, doing their best to keep quiet while holding up their signs. They all clearly felt excited, understanding the importance of this fantastic moment.
In an interview after the hearing, Michael’s now-official adoptive father said that Michael’s favorite part was when “everyone in the room to explain what Michael means to them.” Some said, “Michael is my best friend,” and “I love Michael.”
Going Home Happy
Michael will be the couple’s first child, so they could not feel more excited and ready. There’s no doubt in their mind that Michael will grow into an amazing boy. He already enjoys a variety of hobbies, including swimming, dancing, and football. Talk about a triple threat!
Without a doubt, this will be a day that no one in the courtroom will forget. The adoptive parents said one of the most incredible moments of the day was realizing how loved Michael is and how many friends he’s got. After all, most parents never get to see how other children feel about theirs! Seeing the children and families “welcoming (Michael) into their homes and onto play dates” was incredibly touching to Michael’s parents, who hope the friendships and the love will just keep growing. With friends like these, we’re sure it will!
