Do you love nature and find city life suffocating? Well, what about a cave house literally carved into the side of a mountain? There’s one for sale, and it’s as incredible as it sounds…
History Of The Cave House
Located in Bisbee, Arizona, this incredible cave house is the result of years of dedication and love. When Cathy and Randy Clark found themselves in Bisbee, a historic mining town of days gone by, in 1985, they immediately fell in love. However, nothing could prepare them for finding the property of their dreams, where they would one day build the iconic cave house. “We found the property, we fell in love with it. It had water, it had trees… animal life. It was just so alive and so special,” Cathy said. And so began a 15-year project!
In 2000, the Clarks finally finished their amazing cave house, becoming local legends to Bisbee’s 5,261 residents along the way. The beautiful, 2,568-square-foot home features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and is carved into the side of a mountain, sitting 5,3000 above sea level. But, as you might imagine, that’s just the beginning of this home’s mind-blowing features…
Feel Nature Inside
So what does the inside of the famous cave house look like? It’s truly one-of-a-kind, just like the exterior. When guests first enter, they are greeted by a beautiful sunroom that provides fantastic views. New owners can gaze at the surrounding nature and animals through floor-to-ceiling windows while enjoying a cup of joe. Beside this beautiful sunroom is the cave entrance. Of course, building into the side of a mountain means that the cave house remains a comfortable temperature no matter what time of year.
Inside the cave, the house truly opens up. There’s a sizeable, modern kitchen with high-end appliances and fashionable concrete countertops painted to look like marble. In the dining room, right next door to the kitchen, a cozy booth allows owners a more intimate dining setting than most homes in the areas. Meanwhile, the living room features a massive metal staircase. While it might seem a little spooky, it’s actually how you get to the bedroom! Finally, the master bathroom looks like a scene out of Indiana Jone with jungle plants on all the walls and a natural water tub!
Outside The Home
Believe it or not, that’s not the end of this incredible cave house! Exiting the cave on the other side, new owners will find a two-level guest house with two bedrooms and bathrooms. Not only is it a great place to host friends, but eco-friendly folk will also love the save house as it comes complete with a 46,000-gallon tank that collects rainwater.
So, what will this magnificent home cost you? Quite a bit more than the average Bisbee home price of $127,000, that’s for sure! While the Clark family sold their beloved home in 2018 for $987,000, the current owner wants a bit more, listing it for $998,550. While that’s certainly a lot, less than a million is still quite a steal for this great property!
